Spaghetti Dinner Supporting Our Food Pantry

Dear brothers and sisters,

For many years, Saint Anthony of Padua church, has carried out the charitable work of helping to feed the hungry. Our Food Pantry has been operating in present form in our church since the year 2008 when Father Roger Landry expanded it. Some of the priests involved in this effort before this time were Father Richard Degagne and Father Gomes. With the help of committed volunteers, the food pantry is still providing much needed help to a lot of people in our area. This is one of the ways we, as a community of believers, fulfill our obligation to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, and to practice charity.

In order to keep our Food Pantry running, our volunteers sacrifice a lot of their time an effort. From collecting food or buying it from the Boston Food Bank, to getting the church’s basement ready for distribution every Thursday morning. Even though we have a lot of generous donors who support our food pantry, there is always the need to raise funds. This year one the freezers died on us and we are looking to replace it. Unfortunately, this type of freezers is not cheap, they cost around 3,000 dollars. Besides that, the church must pay for the electricity of the several freezers we need in order to store frozen food, pay for the kitchen permits and clean ups.

In order to help with the expenses related to maintaining our food pantry, we hold a spaghetti dinner once a year. Our spaghetti dinner this year will be on April 6th from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. I ask for your support and participation for this event. You can buy tickets for this dinner at the parish office. This could be a great act of charity during Lent, but most of all an opportunity demonstrate your love for God in helping those less fortunate in our community. Thanks for your support in this effort. God bless you.
